The St. Louis Cardinals had a pitcher had a young man that decided to make a name for himself in 1905. Looking for a replacement in the rotation the Cardinals called upon the young Cy Alberts. He did not disappoint. The 23-year old had dominated in AAA for four years before being called up and for 1905 at least, it continued. By year's end he had compiled a 23-4 record in 31 starts and a 1.84 ERA. He was a workhorse pitching in 263 and 2/3 innings with 20 complete games and two shutouts. With a 91 to 79 walk to strikeout ratio he held hitters to a .177 average. This all earned Cy not only the NL Rookie of the Year but also the NL Cy Young Award, NL MVP Award, NL Win and ERA Leader. After having a strong spring training outing fans are looking forward to seeing what Alberts will bring to the 1906 season. Only time will tell.
